CHAPTER XX
Duncan nodded saying, âYes, most certainlyâ¦Besides, I had no choice but to believe. Once me and me brothers truly and completely gave ourselves over to the Host, and became warriors for Him. That dang note kept ringing in my head, over and over again each time ye came into my sight. I thought I would lose what little senses I had.â
Kallie laughed and laughed, then she kissed her husband with a passion only he knew she possessed. Duncan picked her up and started towards the bed with her in his arms, saying, âCome wife, it is time for ye to succor yer poor defeated husband. I need ye tonight my Kallie, my strength, my strong tower. Help me to forget the horrors this day has wrought upon my spirit.â
Giving him a welcoming smile, Kallie answered, âI am yours to command, my lordâ¦But Keith, there is more we must speak of this nightâ¦something of great import. But, in the meanwhile, love nowâ¦speak later?â
He laid her on the bed and she literally wrapped her entire body around her husband and allowed passions wings to soar. When the clock struck midnight, Duncan Keith McKnight and his beautiful wife, lay sleeping peacefully, in contentment and satisfaction. They did not awaken until after four of the clock in the morn, then and only then did they speak.
TRAVIS AND JUWEL
Juwel McKnight picked up a blanket and joined her husband who was sitting in the window seat in their bedchamber. Once she had the blanket settled around them she commented, âIt is chilly tonight is it not, my love? Are you warm enough?â
Travis gave her a bitter smile saying, âYe have come to offer me counsel have ye not, my Juwel?â
Leaning in close she answered, âOnly if you require it, your grace.â
Travis laughed saying, âHave I been that bad? Iâ¦I, oh wife, I believe I am somewhat ashamed of meself. I truly think I have become pridefulâ¦This could in truth be a lesson from our Father, that pride goeth before the fall.â
Juwel had known he was going to feel such a way, he always tried to keep himself in check when it came to pride.
When one is wealthy beyond even the wildest dreams of most people in any century, there is always the chance of there being excessive pride. Even in her century the McKnight name is well respected, and thought of in awe. Then if you add to that, the gifts most of the clan have received, amazing gifts that would frighten even the strongest of demons, much less humans. Pride for one such as the Duke of McKnight would be an easy thing to fall into.
But all of the McKnightâs who have become soldiers in Godâs army, know of this struggle, as it is a constant one for all of them. They are aware the Host will not strike one of His own down, for having a misstep when it comes to pride, it is a part of being human. We have not yet been graced with celestial bodies, and so we still have the fragilities of the human flesh.
